Because the record label nowadays want to control content, arrangement, marketing and distribution. Once an artist or group signs a recording contract, they basically surrender all rights to their music. It is then chopped, cut and pasted to make that "sound" the marketing executives want. Prime example, Justin Timberlake. No talent. Just a piece of putty molded for a specific market segment. Same can be said of Rap music.
